It probably is down to your build, because my 71 summon/arc witch is doing fine. I think melee is pretty gear dependent which makes it a harder first character. Not so different from D2 in that respect, casters (particularly necros) were the thing to roll on a fresh ladder.

    - Looting system, I often have trouble picking up items while playing solo with the lag and the out of sync, no way I'm giving my precious loot to someone else with better connection. That + there is already pickit
Yeah much as I've become disillusioned with Diablo 3, this is one thing it did better. Everybody has their own loot, that only they can see. I understand why they did it the way they did in PoE - if you don't want something, you leave it on the ground and then other people can pick it up, but they made the pickup delay too short. It should be like 5+ seconds before your item can be picked up by other people. Or maybe base it off rarity. Scrolls and low level orbs expire in a second, high level orbs, rares, and uniques get 5 seconds.

Party chat is %. I'll definitely agree that the chat interface is cumbersome. Most annoying is the fact that autocomplete on @ doesn't seem to populate from your friends list OR your chat history. Instead it seems to be a bunch of random people.

Being more a casual gamer I have not the time nor will to plot detailed builds out based on the passive tree. So I know I am making mistakes as I allocate some skill pts but I have accepted that. It would be nice to have some sort of preliminary selection you can do to see the affects of selecting 1 or 10 pts based on your skill gems and gear and then if you like it, hit a "apply" button to make it permanent or canel it and try again. A sort of preview if you will.
How would that work, given that you only get one point per level? You'd have to bank points in order to use it? I don't know, I think the system works well. Respec points and orbs of regret are a pretty good system. Spec means more than in D3 or something, but you can still tweak it a bit, or if you're willing to invest a lot of in game currency, respec completely. The tree's depth is also really nice if you're the sort of gamer who likes theorycrafting, which I do. I think that's an intentional choice on the dev's part to cater to their audience - D3 caters to the casuals, so they decided to fill a different niche.

I'm hoping they'll fill out the back story and personality of the characters a bit as the game continues to be developed. They are definitely a bit bland at the moment.

Style wise I like them all well enough, except for the shadow. I have the same problem with the shadow that I had with the male wizard in D3 - he looks like an emo assclown who I would punch in the face if I actually met.

Oh my god it is so bad. This is my number one gripe about the game. They need to fix this **** yesterday. On my summoner I intentionally picked an auto-targeting spell (arc) as my primary so I can live with it, but god is it ever irritating.

Other than the above already mentioned issues, I have these issues:

    1) Inventory tetris: Not everything D2 did was a good thing. PoE as a spiritual successor to D2 succeeds in a lot of ways, but for FSM's sake get rid of the inventory tetris.

    2) No Cain NPC to identify my stuff. I don't want to click scroll, click item, click scroll, click item a bajillion times. I don't care if the NPC charges me scrolls to do the ID or what, I just don't want to do it manually.

    3) Skill bar customization. You don't get a separate skill bar for your weapon swap. That alone is really frustrating. You also can't re-map the first three slots to anything, they're forced to be mouse left, mouse right, and most godawful, mouse middle. I also don't see why you shouldn't be able to have more skill bar slots. Your skill variety is limited by your sockets, why limit it artificially by the interface?

    4) The mini-map / overlay-map is way too cluttered. It should just have hard lines indicating where you can and cannot walk. It should not show trees, pillars, terrain, all that garbage. It just makes it harder to see what is going on.

You can no longer target minions on your own team."

    Yes!

Re: Things you dislike about PoE

I dislike hearing how awful diablo 3 is every five seconds in chat. I personally still like hc diablo 3 and don't understand how in a genre as small as aRPG's we can afford to only support one game, hate the rest. Preferring one to the rest and comparing components is one thing. But this religious devotion most seem to have to only one aRPG seeing other aRPGs as competitors that must be destroyed seems silly to me (I have the same gripe about diablo 3's attitude towards PoE). You may prefer Mortal Kombat 2 to Street Fighter 2 Turbo, but saying, "I play Mortal Kombat, therefore Killer Instinct sucks and should be deleted from the world," is annoyingly ignorant.

I will admit it's worse in the D3 community than here tho.

Re: Things you dislike about PoE

I tried my first party the other day.

I dislike the drop system. D3 nailed it much better for three reasons imo. One, it's annoying to have to compete with others rapidly for drops. Two, if someone wants to play nice and agrees to not compete for drops, they're likely to get screwed 80% of the time in a public game. Three, having /all/ those drops littering the ground just lights it up with text (ok... to be fair problem three is solvable by toggling a key... but as long as people have to compete for drops I don't want to waste one second finding a key to highlight what has already fallen). If they really want it to stay this way, it should definitely be increased to a larger timer. It's on 5(?) seconds now? I usually never have enough time to read and click because of lag. I'll end up with like two seconds to grab all my items. Just upping it to 8 or 10 would help a ton. Even if they only did that for rares and uniques.

Doing it the way D3 did would work too. I think D3 did drops great, by keeping them to yourself.

Re: Things you dislike about PoE

I'd like names to persist on items after the timer runs out. The item could be picked up by anybody, but you could see who was supposed to get it. It wouldn't fix ninja looting in public games, but it would fix all my complaints in private games pretty much. My number one issue is having to keep loot highlight on all the time in private games not because I'm afraid of ninja, but because I honestly have no clue who is supposed to get what drop half the time.

I think just a longer timer would solve a ton of these issues too. I personally like the idea PoE has with combining the positives of both D3 and D2's drop system but simply feel the timer is about 50-60% too short.

Re: Things you dislike about PoE

I don't know, in an extended fight a longer timer doesn't help much (unless it is a LOT longer, in which case it would be annoyingly long in shorter fights). I suppose 50% longer timer might be okay, it would help the pickup groups, but it could also slow them down if they're doing quick farming of easy areas.

For map farming with friends, the name persisting after the drop went public would be far more interesting and helpful than a longer timer. No more holding alt during the fight, or setting item tags always to show. You just hold alt once combat has stopped and see if anything interesting has your name on it.

God I'm tired of the item clutter from having item names always show, but it is impossible to figure out who owns what if you don't.

I think that the longer time would at least give you longer to glance the name though, but yeah having it persist afterwards makes sense. So there's no question whether someone accidentally ninja'd your loot or not. Sometimes, I'm not a hundred percent sure and find myself asking far too often. So yeah, I agree, maybe both should be present. The timer is too short regardless in my opinion. It should be long enough so that close-distance melee characters don't have a clear advantage, which is the case now in pubs.

Apart from the obvious loot system, being unable to duplicate names is annoying. I realise Blizzard could only do that in D3 because they forced RealID on people, and GGG don't want account names to be public. Still it would be nice to develop some way around adding x, xx, xxx, 1, 123, 1 etc to the end of every name.

And the game's only been out a month! This will only get worse.

I don't get this issue (I've seen many threads about it recently on PoE site). I mean, maybe if you're trying to name your guys 'Batman' or 'TitsEnormous' but I seem to never have issues. Added no X's to my new Shadow's name, . And my Race Character today, , needed no underscore. Hell I even locked down some pretty popular character names from a pretty popular show for some alts (rhymes with Name of Bones) without incorrect spelling. was taken for my Templar, but wasn't. Problem solved. I dunno. Why do we really care? It's just a character name.

Edit: Not really that I disagree I guess, just that I'd rather a dozen other little things be implemented beforehand is all. I mean, if this is bothering enough people, it should certainly be addressed, but not before improvements to how the game actually plays first imo.
